Gap Year New Romania
Why choose your Gap Year Adventure in Romania?
This is a demanding yet rewarding placement for those who want to care for abandoned or sick children.
Changing Worlds can offer you the chance to help in a variety of children's institutions in Brasov, including two orphanages and a children's hospice. You need to be warm hearted (and capable of being hugged incessantly) as well having bags of patience and lots of energy.
Brasov, with its beautiful architecture and scenery, is also a great place to experience the more postive sides of Romanian life.

Where will my Gap Year Placement in Romania be?
The placements are in and around Brasov, a beautiful city surrounded by wooded mountains, with a lovely square, fine historical buildings, bars, lively nightlife, and close to Count Dracula’s castle and a skiing area.
Romania has stunning scenery, including mountains, forests and the Black Sea coastline.
However, a closer look reveals a very poor country that has struggled to find its way since the fall of communism a decade ago. However, few Romanians look back to the days of Communism with any enthusiasm and are determined that their country should move forward.
What will I do on my Gap Year in Romania?
You will be involved with the daily routine of the orphanage. This includes helping with meals and bedtimes as well as initiating activities such as sport or drama for the older orphans.
During your placement you will have the option of working in several other childcare projects. We currently have volunteers working in Art Therapy at the children's hospital, a children's hospice and with teenagers in an orphanage at Brasov. Working in more than one location will give you some variety and will prove less draining.
You will be based in Brashov living in a flat that Changing Worlds will rent for you and your fellow volunteers. Please expect to share a room. You can go out or cook for yourself in the evening. You may occasionally find yourself staying overnight at the orphanage. During your shift you will have meals with the children. The food is wholesome and filling but you may want to supplement your diet with some fruit in winter.
